Request a Book for Your Group		  

The Amherst Town Library is pleased to support a number of local book groups by supplying multiple copies of a chosen title for discussion.

Ordering Procedure
To place a request, please contact the Reference Department either in person, over the phone, or by email. You will need to provide the following information:
  • the name of your book group
  • the name and telephone number of a contact person
  • the title and author of the book
  • the number of copies needed
  • the date of your book group discussion
To allow adequate time for reading and discussion, we will arrange for and extended checkout period and set a due date for the group at this time.

If you would like to make a book club kit request, please contact the Reference Department
Please keep in mind that recently published books and bestsellers are popular in every library! We may not be able to borrow as many copies of these current titles for your group members.

Checkout Procedure
Once all of the copies of the requested title are received at the library and are ready for pickup, we will notify the designated contact person for your group of their arrival.

Convenient Pickup
The library offers two options for groups to pick up their chosen title:
  • One designated book club member may pick up all the copies for his or her group. All titles are checked out on the responsible individual's library card (Please note: Any fines or fees resulting from late return or damage will be assessed to this individual).
  • Each member may pick up his or her own copy (after notification from his or her group's contact person). The title is checked out to his or her own library card.
Book club titles are held separately at the Circulation Desk. Please tell the staff member the name of your book group.

Returns
All book club titles obtained from another library must be returned to the Amherst Town Library. Please do not return books to another GMILCS library.

NH Book Bag Program
Another option for book discussion groups!

The Book Bag Program is a joint project of the NH State Library and the NH Humanities Council.

Through the Book Bag program, groups may receive a box with ten to 100 copies of a selected title. There are over 400 titles to choose from!

Titles can be reserved up to 12 months in advance with a minimum notice of 2 weeks.
