Friends

The Friends of the Amherst Town Library is a volunteer group that provides supplementary services and supplies to our Library. We help out in the areas of "it would be nice but…the money isn't in the budget," or "the staff is already stretched too thin."

The Friends of Library decorate for the winter holidays, organize and arrange for displays, exhibits, concerts and several special guests. Our contributions have purchased computers, DVD's and the annual passes to the Boston Museum of Science, the Museum of Fine Arts, and the Currier Gallery.

“The Inspiration of a Painting” Art Exhibit
The Friends of the Library are looking for artists to participate in our mid July through August art exhibit titled “The Inspiration of a Painting” at the Amherst Town Library. We are looking for paintings, drawings, hanging mixed media pieces that may have photos or conceptual drawings to show how a painting goes from inspiration to a finish piece. We plan to display simply protected and hangable photos and/or concept drawings with the finished framed art piece. We would love to see landscapes, still lifes, portraits, and all other subjects in this show. Please contact Sharron April at sharronapril@gmail.com or 672-8418 for more information.

Congratulations to all the young exhibiting artists from Amherst and Mont Vernon schools whose artwork adorn the Amherst Town Library’s walls, halls, display cases and bookcases during the 20th Annual Student Art Show. Over the past 20 years the Student Art Show has showcased and shared the talents of our youth with the community. It has become a long--standing tradition enjoyed by all. And over the years the Student Art Show has grown and undergone changes along the way. Among this year’s changes was inviting Mont Vernon Village School to be a part of the art show and adding a juried award system in addition to the participation award ribbons.

Friends of the Library 4th of July book sale - paperbacks and children's books wanted!

The Friends of the Library 4th of July book sale is only 7 weeks away. We are looking for donations of fiction paperbacks and children’s books of any kind. Please drop off your books at the library and let the staff know they are for the 4th of July book sale.

The book sale will run from 9:00am until 1:00pm on the village green.
Paperback fiction books will be sold for $1 each.
Children’s books will be $0.50 each.
It’s a great opportunity to stock up on your summer reading so please drop by!

Volunteers wanted for the Amherst Library

Please join The Friends of the Amherst Town Library, a non-profit all volunteer group that devotes time to support the library through fund raising efforts along with developing programs that enrich the library’s cultural services to our community.

We are seeking volunteers who would be interested in helping out with some of the many services The Friends of the Amherst Town Library provide, including: membership drives, museum passes, fundraisers, newsletters, book sales, museum trips, library book bags and note cards, student art shows, professional art exhibits, display case collections, hospitality for events, book groups, and holiday decorations just to name a few.
